Deborah was b. in 1831 in New Carlisle to Samuel Chatterton and Margaret Huntington but does not appear with her parents in the 1860 New York (St Lawrence county) census. Does anyone know what became of her.  I have a theory but will not bias any replies by posting it yet.

I don't know what became of her, but I'd be very interested in any ideas you might have.

In brief, I think Deborah Chatterton married Alpheus Billingsley, son of William Billingsley & Mary Jane Flowers.

Why I think this is a long story. Alpheus was in Dundas county in 1861 with wife Debby and daughters Rhodean and unnamed. I managed to trace Alpheus to St. Lawrence county New York in the 1870 census where he was head of a family consisting of his wife Abigal and daughters Roda, Elizabeth, Louisa and Ellen. For the longest time, this is where I was stuck. Then a breakthrough came when I found an obituary for Rhoda Ann Billingsly Gill which mentionned her sister, Mrs. Charles Stone. I then found an obituary for "Mrs. Lottie Billing Stone, wife of Charles A. Stone" who I believe was Ellen of the  1870 census. For this family, the last name often switches between Billing, Billings or Billingsl(e)y. In Lottie's obituary, her parents are cited as "Charles and Sara Chatterson Billings". I suspect that Alpehus & Deborah died before the 1880 census was taken and the information given in the obituaries is not 100% accurate. Now Chatterson is like Chatterton and combined with the 1861 first name, I arrived at the name Deborah Chatterton.

Now, is this reasonable? Deborah Chatterton was b. 21 March 1831 near New Carlisle to Samuel James Chatterton and Margaret Huntington, who had many other children. In the 1860 census for Russell, NY, there was Samuel and Margaret Chatterton with a family which matches most of the children b. in New Carlisle but no Deborah. I think the Chatterton's moved from New Carlisle to New York (with perhaps a brief layover in Dundas county) and Alpheus Billingsley moved from Dundas county with Deborah to be near her family. In the 1861 census, Debby was 29 y old and in the 1870 census, Abigal was 36y old.

Summarized, I have

1. the parents & siblings of Deborah Chatterton in in St Lawrence County NY at approximately the same time as Debby & Alpehus Billingsley.
2. Debby Billingsley approximately the same age as Deborah Chatterton in 1861 & 1870
3. Chatterson close to Chatterton
4. Billingsley's and Chatterton's with connections to New Carlisle (Alpheus's siblings Elizabeth and William both lived there)

So, any comments???

This is very interesting and could well be some very creative and excellent research. I wish I knew a little more about this line so I could comment with greater confidence.
