I have Travers on my grandfathers side and McKenzie on my Grandmothers side both from Shigawake. My great grandfather was Reuben Travers who raised his family in Saint Godfroi, not far from Shigawake. Reubens father John Benjamin was married to Margaret Robinson. I heard that Reuben was a minister or preacher in Saint Godfroi but am not sure. Reuben also had a son Joseph who died as a teen and I would like to know the year and what was his condition. Any info on Reubens brothers and sisters would be grealy appreciated as well as info on his son Tedcastle who served in WW1. Thanks. This is a great site and I am really glad I came across it.

Thanks for the info. I did find out the Reuben Percival died in 1960 in Gault, Ontario (now Cambridge). He and Florence divorced and he remarried in Ontario a women named Maude who was older than him and lived to be 91 I guess. Do you know if John Benjimin died in Shigawake or if Reuben was a preacher or minister in St Godfri. I would love to have the information on the census but do not know how to send you my e mail without putting it over the whole site. Is there a way to privately give it to you, as I am nervous about viruses. Just started using sites like yours so know very little about them yet.

Thanks again for the info

Lynne,
I just came across the marriage register for Beatrice Travers:
Beatrice Travers d/o John Travers and Margaret Robinson married Rev. Isaac Kerr s/o Robert Kerr and Sarah Burns on Sept. 12, 1901 at Smith's Falls, Lanark Cty., Ontario. reg#010299. They both give their place of residence when married as Shigawake, Quebec, but yet they went to Ontario to get married. I wonder why?
